AITEX has collaborated with haute couture house Isabel Sanchis to create three corsets using additive manufacturing technologies for presentation at Madrid Fashion Week. The project combined 3D scanning, digital modelling, 3D printing and specialist finishing techniques to transform haute couture designs into unique pieces featuring pearlescent and crystalline effects.
Additive manufacturing takes to the catwalk
The evolution of design and manufacturing technologies is opening up new creative possibilities for the fashion industry. Against this backdrop, AITEX collaborated with haute couture house Isabel Sanchis to develop three corsets presented at Madrid Fashion Week, in a project that brings together craftsmanship, design and technological innovation.
The work carried out by the AITEX team began with the digitisation of the original bodice designs using 3D scanning. This process produced accurate digital models, which subsequently formed the basis for manufacturing the pieces using different 3D-printing technologies.
Transparent crystalline corset: lightness and volume through resin printing
The second piece is characterised by its transparent appearance and volumetric forms, which evoke crystalline structures.
The piece was produced using a resin-curing printing technology, specifically Low Force Display (LFD), which enables high levels of detail and transparency.
The use of transparent resin created a visually rich piece that interacts with light, producing different nuances and reflections on the catwalk. The design conveys a sense of lightness and demonstrates the potential of additive manufacturing to develop new aesthetic concepts within haute couture.
Pearlescent corset: a pearl effect achieved through filament printing
The first piece stands out for its soft, pearlescent aesthetic, inspired by the natural reflections of mother-of-pearl. It was manufactured using fused deposition modelling (FDM) 3D-printing technology with PLA material. Once the main structure had been produced, the piece was finished by applying resin blended with specific pigments, creating a pearlescent visual effect that adds depth, lustre and an organic appearance to the surface.
The result is a lightweight corset with clean lines and a sophisticated finish, combining contemporary design with advanced manufacturing techniques.
Iridescent blue corset: technology and artisanal finishing
The third creation uses the same transparent-resin manufacturing technology as the crystalline corset.
Following printing, the piece was finished with resins and pigments that produce iridescent reflections in shades of blue. This treatment visually enriches the surface and enhances the interplay of transparency, creating an aesthetic that combines organic inspiration with a crystalline appearance.
The final result is a design that integrates technological precision with artisanal craftsmanship to create a piece with strong visual impact on the catwalk.
