R&D IN ELECTRONIC PRINTING FOR THE CREATION OF FUNCTIONAL AND SMART TEXTILES WITH INTEGRATED SENSORS
PRINT4TEX 2025
Motivation
In recent years, advances in electronic printing have established this technology as a key tool for the manufacturing of sensors, actuators, and electronic circuits, using techniques such as screen printing, flexography, and direct ink writing. These developments have enabled the creation of innovative applications, such as pressure sensors, electrodes, and heating systems on flexible substrates.
The growing use of wearable devices has highlighted the need to further develop this technology to address challenges related to size and weight reduction, improved durability (resistance to washing, friction, sweat, etc.), and the optimization of manufacturing costs. Likewise, electronic printing has cross-sector applications in areas such as healthcare, automotive, packaging, logistics, and gamification, demonstrating its versatility and high potential for impact.

Objectives
The main objective of the project is the development of advanced electronic printing solutions to achieve a high level of prototyping. The aim is to optimize and diversify the applications of printed sensors and circuits, with a particular focus on the detection of bodily analytes and the exploration of new sectors such as packaging and the detection of specific substances.
Expected results

-
Printing of antennas in various formats for smart packaging solutions.
-
Development of printed antennas using biodegradable materials.
-
Development of electrochemical sensors.
-
Integration of printed electronics in in-mold electronics processes.
-
Optimization of connections between wires and printed parts to ensure greater functional reliability and miniaturization of the integration.
