New high-performance functionalised materials
RESEARCH AND DEVELOPMENT OF NEW SUSTAINABLE RESINS FOR APPLICATION IN THE COMPOSITES INDUSTRY
GREEN COMP
Motivation
The composite materials industry requires eco-design solutions that enable future recyclability to satisfy the needs of sectors with extreme technical requirements such as aerospace, the wind industry and construction among others. The prototypes will be developed for use mainly in the wind energy industry; however, they also have uses in other sectors such as the car industry. In this sense, the composite materials sector is researching various ways to reduce its environmental impact, some of which will be considered in this project.

Objectives
The R&D project aims to develop tools and solutions to reduce the environmental impact of the composite materials industry by researching and developing new composites using sustainable materials such as chemically reversible resins (recyclable or thermoplastic), sustainable fabrics, new economically and energetically advantageous composite curing processes, novel and Eco-friendly cores.

Value and competitive advantage

-
Use of innovative materials that enable achieving an optimal balance between sustainability, mechanical properties, and functionality.
-
Introduction of energy-efficient processes for resin curing.
-
Application of materials in sectors such as wind energy, transportation, construction, among others.
Obtained results

-
Manufacturing of technical materials with optimized mechanical properties.
-
Use of sustainable materials for the production of composite prototypes.
-
Manufacturing of wind turbine microblade prototypes with sustainable materials using RTM (Resin Transfer Molding) and out-of-autoclave prepreg curing.
-
Development of an innovative curing process using microwave irradiation.
-
Production of composites using BMC (Bulk Molding Compound) technologies.
