New high-performance functionalised materials
R&D ON HIGH‑PERFORMANCE MULTIFILAMENT SPINNING FROM CIRCULAR, BIO‑BASED POLYMERS AND VALORIZED INDUSTRIAL WASTE
ECOMELT 2026
Motivation
Companies are increasingly demanding yarns with sustainable properties. For this reason, melt spinning processes will be optimized with the aim of improving the physicomechanical properties of circular, bio‑based polymers and polymers derived from valorized industrial waste. These actions seek to broaden the range of sustainable, competitive, and high value‑added products, offering companies in the Valencian Community real solutions to adapt their processes and products to new environmental requirements.

Objectives
The main objective of the project is to develop high‑performance multifilament yarns from circular and bio‑based polymers and valorized industrial waste. This will be achieved through the identification and characterization of sustainable raw materials, the design of optimized formulations suitable for spinning, the adaptation of pilot and semi‑industrial plants to the requirements of these new materials, and the production of demonstrators to validate the technical and functional performance of the developed yarns.
Expected results

-
Identification and characterization of circular and bio‑based polymers and valorized industrial waste suitable for melt spinning processes.
-
Development of optimized sustainable formulations for future spinning applications.
-
Adjustment and improvement of the key technical properties of the sustainably based yarns developed during the project.
-
Improvement and adaptation of thermoplastic polymer spinning plants to meet the processing requirements of this type of sustainable materials.
-
Development of demonstrators to validate the quality and performance of the project outcomes.
