RESEARCH INTO PROCESSES FOR OBTAINING AND VALIDATING NATURAL ACTIVE INGREDIENTS IN THE COSMETICS SECTOR
BIOACTIVE
Motivations
Within this natural trend, one of the movements that stands out the most is upcycling, which consists of the revaluation of environmental waste. In the case of the cosmetics sector it focuses on the use of discarded ingredients from the food industry.
The current needs of the sector have led to the need for the execution of this project, with the aim of transferring knowledge to companies on the optimisation of processes for obtaining and stabilising natural active ingredients, as well as the development of effective natural cosmetic formulas. This will provide customers with an entry point into the growing world of sustainable and ecological cosmetics.

Objectives
Optimisation of the extraction and fermentation processes of natural sources to obtain high added value active ingredients in cosmetics, and their subsequent incorporation into cosmetic matrices to demonstrate their compatibility, safety and efficacy in final products. The execution of the project involves the optimisation of extraction and fermentation processes to obtain high added-value plant-based active ingredients and their incorporation into safe and effective cosmetic bases, contributing to the generation of a solid knowledge base that can be passed on to companies in the sector.
Expected results

-
Obtaining cosmetic ingredients from natural sources.
-
Development of improved extraction methods compared to conventional methods.
-
Identification of ferments of proven efficacy in the cosmetic sector.
-
Analysis of methods of stabilisation of active ingredients by biomimetic release systems and freeze-drying.
-
Creation of a portfolio of different stable, safe and effective cosmetic products.
-
Development of processes for the pilot plant scale-up of cosmetic products.
-
Development of in vitro studies to validate the efficacy of hair active ingredients.
-
Establishment of protocols for carrying out efficacy tests in order to be able to vindicate the claims of the cosmetic products developed by means of instrumental, sensorial and medical results.
