RESEARCH AND DEVELOPMENT OF HIGH-PERFORMANCE TECHNICAL FIBRES THROUGH THE OPTIMIZATION OF ECO-DESIGN PROCESSES
PERFIBERS
Motivation
The technical requirements for fibers intended for high‑demand sectors such as automotive, defense, personal protection, and high‑performance outdoor applications are becoming increasingly stringent. In addition to requiring advanced mechanical and functional properties, these sectors demand that production processes comply with sustainability and energy‑efficiency criteria, significantly increasing industrial complexity.
Within this context, the project is focused on the development and optimization of processes for manufacturing high‑performance technical fibers, while transversally integrating eco‑design methodologies throughout the entire process.

Objectives
The main objective of the project is to develop and optimize advanced processes for the manufacturing of technical fibers by addressing the selection, formulation, and processability of thermoplastic polymers intended for high‑performance applications. The project will integrate rheological methodologies to determine extrusion process stability. In parallel, eco‑design principles will be applied to improve material efficiency and promote circularity in production, culminating in the development of demonstrators to validate the quality and functionality of the resulting products.
Expected results

-
Development of advanced thermoplastic polymer formulations optimized for extrusion processes.
-
Optimization of critical spinning parameters to obtain uniform fibers with stable mechanical properties.
-
Comprehensive rheological characterization to ensure polymer processability and performance.
-
Integration of eco‑design criteria to improve the sustainability of the final products.
-
Manufacture of functional demonstrators to validate improvements in formulation, processing, and final properties under real‑use conditions.
