RESEARCH AND DEVELOPMENT OF ADVANCED MATERIALS THROUGH SUSTAINABLE VALORIZATION TECHNOLOGIES

CIRMATEC

Motivation

The transition toward more sustainable and circular production models has made waste valorization a strategic priority for industry. Within this framework, the development of advanced materials from secondary resources has gained relevance, with the aim of reducing dependence on virgin raw materials and optimizing waste utilization.
Research into thermochemical valorization technologies and sustainable chemical extraction processes has enabled the transformation of waste of various origins into compounds and materials with functional properties of industrial interest, consolidating a more efficient and innovative approach focused on optimized resource management and revalorization. In addition, the integration of advanced porous materials into different polymeric and textile matrices will be explored in order to enhance their functionality and expand their applicability within the industrial sector.

Objectives

The main objective of the project is to research and develop high value‑added materials, additives, and products from secondary resources through advanced valorization and sustainable extraction technologies, demonstrating their functionality and potential for industrial applications.

Expected results

  • Valorization of waste from different sources (wastewater treatment sludge, leather, textiles, etc.) through thermochemical processes aimed at transforming them into resources of industrial interest.
  • Generation of new materials and applications from by‑products obtained through thermochemical valorization (char, pyrolytic oils, and gases).
  • Development of sustainable chemical extraction processes applied to different types of waste (lignin, electronic waste, etc.) to obtain products with industrial application potential.
  • Integration of porous materials (MOFs, aerogels, activated carbons, and others) into different matrices (nonwovens, films, resins, etc.) to enhance their functionality and expand their industrial applicability.
