RESEARCH AND DEVELOPMENT OF NEW SUSTAINABLE AND FUNCTIONAL MATERIALS FROM TEXTILE WASTE THROUGH ADVANCED RESINS

BIND-TEX

Motivation

BIND-TEX promotes innovation in sustainable materials through the valorization of textile waste, transforming it into new functional composites by means of technologies such as glue blending and surface spraying. The project focuses on the use of advanced resins (flame-retardant, bio-based, and thermoplastic) to obtain safer, more recyclable materials with a lower environmental impact, addressing current market needs such as the demand for flame-retardant and sustainable solutions for public spaces, improved acoustic performance in hospitality and retail environments, and the lack of materials that combine sustainability, acoustics, and fire safety.
The research develops sustainable composites manufactured with bio-based resins, panels with improved fire reaction, and materials with a high sound absorption coefficient. Through this approach, BIND-TEX reduces the use of virgin raw materials, increases the valorization of textile waste, and offers innovative solutions for sectors such as retail, temporary architecture, interior decoration, hospitality, and acoustic conditioning.

Objectives

The objective of the project is to research and develop new sustainable and functional materials using textile waste as a secondary raw material. To achieve the project goals, glue blending and surface spraying technologies will be employed, incorporating resins with different functionalities.

Expected results

  • New families of sustainable composites and surface finishes manufactured with bio-based resins.
  • Panels and elements with improved fire reaction performance.
  • Materials with a high sound absorption coefficient.
  • Reduction of the sector’s environmental impact through decreased use of virgin materials.
  • Increase in the percentage of textile waste valorization.
