Motivation


Currently, research and development of polymers is closely linked to advancements in the field of additives. This development becomes particularly important considering that polymers are being used in increasingly sophisticated applications that demand high technical performance.

Polymer-additive formulations must be carefully designed to meet the critical requirements engineers face daily across key sectors such as automotive, aerospace, smart equipment, healthcare, energy production, and storage. Challenges arise when the additives currently used in industry contain substances that negatively affect humans and/or the environment, creating a global issue.

Objectives


To develop thermoplastic formulations (biopolymer/sustainable additive) that allow the creation of new products aligned with the technical quality required by different target markets (automotive, signaling elements, outdoor fabrics, or nets) and compliant with current environmental and user health sustainability regulations. Achieving the main project objective is linked to several processes that must be developed in coordination to reach the desired technical outcome.

  • Validation of the materials through spinning, texturizing, and film manufacturing processes.
  • Development of sustainable yarns and textile structures with potential for industrial applications.
  • Validation of the developed materials under real manufacturing conditions in collaboration with industrial partners.
  • Generation of key technical knowledge to support the development of future sustainable textile products.
