MULTIDIMENSIONAL INTEGRATED QUANTITATIVE APPROACH TO ASSESS SAFETY AND SUSTAINABILITY OF NANOMATERIALS IN REAL CASE LIFE CYCLE SCENARIOS USING NANOSPECIFIC IMPACT CATEGORIES

INTEGRANO

Motivation

INTEGRANO is a new project funded by the European Union under the Horizon Europe Research and Innovation program. AITEX is participating alongside 12 other partners from 8 different countries in a multidisciplinary consortium with unique experiences and skills.

To develop nanomaterials with minimal impact on health, climate, and the environment, it is essential to design them to be safe (for both humans and the environment) and sustainable throughout their entire life cycle. However, current assessment methods do not provide all the necessary knowledge to obtain a complete picture.

INTEGRANO will establish a comprehensive approach to safety and sustainability assessment, covering the entire life cycle of nanomaterials. INTEGRANO proposes a general assessment approach based on quantitative evidence, following the Safe and Sustainable by Design (SSbD) framework. This approach will be applied and validated in practice for specific nanomaterial (NM) design cases.

Objectives

INTEGRANO aims to:

  • Support decision-making in the development of nanomaterials (NMs), enabling stakeholders (scientists, materials engineers, regulators) to address the challenge of Safe and Sustainable by Design (SSbD) in the context of NMs.
  • Promote the design and redesign of NMs and nano-enabled products (NEPs) by reducing R&D and validation time, minimizing costs, and increasing data transparency.
  • Support the industry by reducing the inherent risk of research, technological development, and innovation related to safety and sustainability.

En este sentido, el objetivo principal del proyecto es investigar y desarrollar prendas textiles de punto para la integración de sensores y wearables que mejoren el rendimiento y rehabilitación en deportistas mediante la gamificación.

Expected results

  • Development of a nanomaterial-specific assessment methodology, operating within the SSbD framework and based on primary performance data obtained from specific case studies conducted within the project.
  • Development and validation of new assessment methods and specific indicators for nanotoxicity and eco-nanotoxicity.
  • Digital Support Tool (DST) implementing a Multi-Objective Optimization Design (MOOD) algorithm.
