DEVELOPMENT OF NEW, MORE EFFICIENT AND SUSTAINABLE PROCESSES FOR TEXTILE DYEING, FINISHING, AND HYGIENIZATION

COLORA

Motivation

The project addresses the need to transform textile finishing processes into more sustainable and efficient models by reducing the high consumption of water, energy, and chemicals, as well as the presence of emerging contaminants that are difficult to treat. To advance this transition, the valorization of textile and agro‑industrial waste to obtain alternative dyes is considered a priority, reducing dependence on synthetic compounds. It is also essential to optimize processes through low‑impact technologies that reduce chemical load and effluent generation, incorporate advanced hygienization systems that maintain microbiological efficacy while using fewer biocides, and decrease emerging contaminants by replacing synthetic auxiliaries with bio‑based alternatives and more efficient processes.

Objectives

The main objective of this project is to develop new, more efficient and sustainable textile finishing processes that promote resource savings and enhance the performance of the resulting fabrics.

Expected results

  • Development and validation of a color palette obtained from textile and agro‑industrial waste, with suitable colorimetric and fastness properties for integration into industrial‑scale dyeing and printing processes.
  • Implementation of low‑impact finishing processes, optimizing water and energy consumption and chemical load, while ensuring technical viability in industrial environments.
  • Significant reduction of emerging contaminants in textile effluents through the replacement of synthetic auxiliaries with bio‑based alternatives and improved process efficiency.
  • Industrial validation of advanced hygienization technologies, including ozone, micronization, and vaporization systems, ensuring microbiological efficacy while reducing the use of conventional biocides.
