RESEARCH AND DEVELOPMENT OF STRETCHABLE ELECTRONIC SOLUTIONS ON TEXTILE SUBSTRATE
STRETCH
Motivation
Printed electronics plays an increasingly important role in the electronics industry due to the advantages in high-performance production and customization in terms of support materials. This is associated with the fact that they can be accessible by other types of industries where they need to incorporate sensors or small electronic units in their products.
Printed technologies have great potential in that they can be used on flexible substrates. This allows them to convert hard and rigid electronic components into more flexible elements, which can even be adhered to other underlying substrates. Bonding printed electronics onto textiles not only has an ergonomic advantage, but also opens doors for design innovation.

Objectives
• The development of flexible sensors that can detect elongations of the sensor itself, which can be used for multiple applications such as detecting deformations, vibrations and movements.
• Improving the properties of electrode-type sensors embedded in textiles using electronic printing.
• The exploration of the possibilities of printing the developments by continuous or roll-to-roll printing using flexographic printing.
Expected results

-
Design and develop stretchable sensors for different applications.
-
Develop electrode-type sensors printed on textile with similar properties to conventional adhesive electrodes to measure signals from the body, such as electrocardiograms.
-
Technical and economic feasibility studies for its application with the electronic printing techniques used.
-
Segmented analysis of the markets and products likely to benefit from these new technologies. In addition, the technical requirements to be met will be identified to determine the critical aspects to be addressed.
