ADVANCED AI AND DIGITALISATION STRATEGIES FOR SUSTAINABILITY IN THE TEXTILE SECTOR
IA4TEX 2025
Motivation
The circular economy in the textile sector aims to transform the traditional linear model of “take, make, dispose” into a regenerative system in which products and materials continuously circulate within the economy. This approach includes strategies such as design for durability, repair, remanufacturing, as well as textile recycling and reuse, with a growing emphasis on technological innovation to optimize these processes.
The integration of advanced technologies such as artificial intelligence, computer vision, and digitalization systems (IoT) continues to revolutionize the textile industry. These tools, whose importance was already identified in the previous project, enable more accurate material classification, optimize processes, and facilitate real-time monitoring and traceability throughout the textile lifecycle.

Objectives
The main objective is to develop and implement solutions based on artificial intelligence and digitalization that optimize textile recycling and manufacturing processes, promoting a circular economy in the sector.
Expected results

-
Development and validation of advanced deep learning models capable of accurate and reliable classification of textile materials, considering key criteria such as colour, composition and defect detection, optimizing recycling efficiency and manufacturing processes.
-
A robust and structured database of hyperspectral images obtained from a wide variety of textiles, allowing their effective use for training artificial intelligence algorithms and future research in textile recycling.
-
A functional and accessible tool based on artificial vision systems, specifically designed to meet the needs of the textile sector, offering quick diagnoses and solutions adapted to each company.
-
A set of technological solutions that are affordable and easily integrated by textile companies, promoting a wider adoption of sustainable and efficient processes in economic and operational terms.
-
A consolidated artificial intelligence-based diagnostic service, providing companies with an accurate and clear assessment of how to optimize their recycling and production processes, increasing efficiency and reducing operating costs.
-
Significant increase in the adoption of digital and sustainable technologies by textile companies as a result of practical workshops and training activities, promoting an effective transition towards the circular economy.
