TESTING PERSONAL PROTECTIVE EQUIPMENT AGAINST THE THERMAL HAZARDS OF AN ELECTRIC ARC

THE ARC RATING CAN BE DERIVED FROM DIFFERENT CHARACTERISTICS ASSESSED IN THE LABORATORY TEST

    >    Arc Thermal Performance Value (ATPV): the incident energy on a material or a multilayer system of materials that results in a 50 % probability that sufficient heat transfer through the tested specimen is predicted to cause the onset of a second-degree skin burn injury based on the Stoll curve, kW/m2 [cal/cmÂČ]

    >    Breakopen Threshold Energy (EBT): the incident energy on a material or material system that results in a 50 % probability of breakopen. [cal/cmÂČ]

    >    Incident Energy Limit (ELIM): numerical value of incident energy attributed to a product (material or clothing), below which value all product responses are below the Stoll curve and without breakopen [cal/cmÂČ]

MAIN FEATURES OF THE OPEN ARC LABORATORY TEST

    >    Current 8kA
    >    Stainless steel electrodes
    >    Distance between electrodes: 300 mm
    >    Distance between the sample and the center of the arc: 300 mm
    >    Multidirectional electric arc.
    >    The incident energy varies according to the determined arc persistence time

      EXCLUSIVE LABORATORY WORLDWIDE

      ARC FLASH

The test determines the arc characteristic of materials, flame-resistant garments or assemblies of garments intended for use in workers’ clothing if an arc flash hazard exists.

      FLASH FIRE MANIKIN

This test provides accurate measurements of the performance of protective clothing or protective gloves ensembles in a simulated flash fire environment.

      BOX TEST

The test involves the generation of a directed and limited electric arc using a box containing aluminium and copper electrodes.

      OTHER AREAS OF AITEX
