New high-performance functionalised materials
RESEARCH AND DEVELOPMENT OF NEW SUSTAINABLE RESINS, NUCLEII AND TEXTILE REINFORCING WITH APPLICATIONS IN THE COMPOSITE MATERIALS INDUSTRY.
GREEN COMP 2025
Motivation
The composite materials industry faces the challenge of incorporating eco-design strategies that promote recyclability and minimise their environmental impact. In response to these needs, AITEX develops technological initiatives that explore various avenues to improve the environmental friendliness of the materials, integrating new technologies and innovative approaches to optimise both production and life cycle.
With solid experience in projects related to sustainable composites research, AITEX actively contributes to the development of materials with a smaller ecological footprint, promoting the use of natural fibres, bio-based resins and more efficient processes. These initiatives respond to the current challenges of the sector, providing solutions that combine high technical performance with environmental commitment.
This approach reflects AITEX’s commitment to promoting sustainability in key industries, reinforcing its leadership as a technology centre at the forefront of innovation and development of advanced materials.

Objectives
The main objective of this R&D project is to develop innovative tools and solutions to reduce the environmental impact of the composite materials industry. To this end, the use of sustainable materials will be investigated and promoted, including chemically reversible resins, sustainable synthesis resins (bio-based), and fabrics of recycled or natural origin, as well as bio-based resins and cores made from recycled materials.

Value and competitive advantage

-
It allows the composite industry to reduce its environmental impact while maintaining high technical and structural performance.
-
Increase business competitiveness through more energy-efficient processes and shorter manufacturing times.
-
It offers differentiating solutions based on sustainable materials with technical validation and real industrial applicability.
Obtained results

-
Development of biobased and recyclable thermosetting resins with technical properties comparable to conventional matrices.
-
Formulation of systems with reversible chemistry that facilitate the chemical recyclability of composite materials.
-
Manufacturing sustainable composite prototypes for industries such as wind energy, transportation, and construction.
-
Optimization of production processes using BMC, SMC, RTM, and vacuum-assisted infusion technologies.
-
Implementation of efficient microwave curing, reducing cycle times and energy consumption of the process.
-
Incorporating industrial waste and recycled materials as functional additives in matrices and cores.
-
Validation of sustainable textile reinforcements and lightweight cores adapted to demanding industrial applications.
