SOFTNESS CERTIFICATE ISSUED BY AITEX
WHAT IS THE SOFTNESS CERTIFICATE?
AITEX’s softness certificate evaluates the touch of fabrics, to objectively quantify the roughness, friction, bend and feel of a specific fabric using different measurement methods that detect and identify its degree of softness.
WHAT IS NEW IN THE SOFTNESS CERTIFICATE?
AITEX’s Softness certificate is a huge step forward in terms of the quality of a material as it includes quantitative and qualitative results.
The test results establish numerical standards that are used to objectively calculate the softness of a fabric, based on its roughness, friction, bend and the feel of a fabric.
The system is a breakthrough in terms of the quality of a textile material, in terms of comfort and employs sensory comfort parameters which evaluate the mechanical properties of tension, bending, shear, compression and surface feel.
The objective parameters of the certification mean that a quality of the textile can be measured, which, until now, had always been qualitative and depended on the person carrying out the inspection. This change is of great value for companies that are researching and improving their processes for the manufacture of innovative products.

WHY INCORPORATE THE SOFTNESS CERTIFICATE IN TEXTILES?
The quality of a fabric no longer depends on appearance alone, its physical properties or its added value properties. Now, softness plays an important role in the broader concept of the “final quality of a fabric”.
The quality of a textile also depends on these new sensory parameters, which are much more demanding and subjective, determined by the opinion of the consumer. Increasingly, textile manufacturing incorporates properties that provide a more pleasant and softer feel.
WHAT KIND OF TEXTILES CAN CARRY THE SOFTNESS CERTIFICATE?
Any textile, garment or textile article, regardless of its composition, structure or colour, which is in direct contact with the skin or not: clothing, workwear, home textiles, decorative elements, etc.
In some types of garments, especially babywear, softness is much more important and decisive in the consumer’s decision making.
