High value-added solutions for strategic markets
RESEARCH AND DEVELOPMENT OF KNITTED STRUCTURES WITH TECHNICAL APPLICATIONS IN DEFENCE AND SECURITY
3D-SHIELD 2025
Motivation
The development of protective textiles offers numerous opportunities in sectors such as defense and workwear. The 3D-SHIELD project aims to leverage AITEX’s weft knitting technology to process high-performance fibers (such as aramids or high-modulus polyethylene) and develop advanced technical fabrics.
The project will focus on the precise processing of strong and abrasive fibers, as well as the design of technical knit structures that provide high mechanical strength and controlled elasticity through reinforcements and fillers.
The goal is to enhance the performance of knitted fabrics in protective applications, thereby promoting their use in the technical and safety textile industry.

Objectives
The main objective of the project is the research and development of new high-performance textile structures for the defence, protection and workwear sectors based on the implementation of 3D-knitting technology (knitted fabric in a rectilinear type system).

Value and competitive advantage

-
Application of 3D‑knitting technology in high value‑added technical textiles.
-
Use of high‑performance fibers combined with advanced knitted structures.
-
Enhanced mechanical properties, expanding the scope of knitted fabrics in strategic sectors.
Obtained results

-
Development of new knitted textile structures for technical applications in the fields of defense and security.
-
Application of high-performance technical fibers in weft-knitting technologies to improve the functional behavior of textiles.
-
Obtaining technical textiles with improved mechanical performance, expanding the potential of knitted fabrics in protective products.
-
