INTECDI – RESEARCH INTO ADVANCED TECHNOLOGY AND DESIGN FOR SUSTAINABLE FASHION ITEMS
There are several advanced technologies that can contribute to the development of more sustainable fashion articles but which are currently not being used by fashion companies in product design and development. The results of this research will allow the transfer of this knowledge to the private sector and its incorporation into their processes.
Virtual simulation: this technology enhances sustainability by allowing the design and development of the product without the need to make physical prototypes, avoiding the consumption of materials and energy.
Advanced technologies for wireless manufacturing: ultrasonic welding technologies make it possible to make a garment from only one type of material, without yarn, facilitating its recycling once it has reached the end of its life. Research into the field will help define the appropriate parameters and processes for the manufacture of garments using ultrasound. We will also investigate the technology of thermo-sealing with tape as a method of creating yarn-free joining seams in combination with ultrasound to improve the properties of the seams. These technologies were developed for other industrial uses, but the experimental process that we are going to carry out within the framework of this project will attain results that will allow them to be applied in the fashion industry.
3D scanning and printing technologies: research will be carried out to combine these two technologies and apply them to a fashion product adapted to the individual, with a high added-value factor that extends its life cycle. 3D printing allows local manufacture on demand, which contributes to the sustainability of the product. Through research we will validate a process for application in the development of sustainable fashion articles.
To develop a research process aimed at making the incorporation of advanced technologies into the design and development process of sustainable fashion products accessible.
- Research through an experimental process aimed at validating models for the application of advanced technologies in the design and manufacture of sustainable fashion.
- To transfer the results and promote sustainable design, generating differentiating value in the fashion product.
As a result of the project, behavioral models for the application of advanced technologies in the design and manufacture of sustainable fashion will be defined and validated. These models will be supported by sample books with a selection of the tests carried out and prototypes which will incorporate the results.
The completion of a series of events such as workshops and showrooms, to transfer the results and promote sustainable design as a generator of differentiating value in fashion articles.
