HONEYTEX 2020 – THE STUDY AND DESIGN OF SEMI-INDUSTRIAL EQUIPMENT TO DEVELOP HONEYCOMBS
High-performance honeycombs are extremely expensive, while cheaper types lack mechanical performance. In addition, most of today’s honeycombs are difficult to recycle. The core motivation for this project is the research and development of the limitations of commercially available honeycombs, to improve their performance to create a new generation of recyclable honeycombs which are of better quality and more competitively priced.
The main objective of the HONEYTEX 2020 project is the study and design of a continuous semi-industrial plant for the development of honeycombs. The equipment will be as versatile as possible to use the widest possible range of different materials enabling the manufacture of a range of core types and sizes.
Additionally, studies will be carried out to revalue thermoplastic textile waste and other elastomer materials in the rubber industry.
- Development of a new generation of high-performance honeycombs combining the full range of commercially available materials.
- Possibility of using cardboard and air-laid non-wovens combined with thermoplastic fibres, enabling a significant reduction in costs.
- Continuous honeycomb manufacturing reducing production breaks which decreases manufacturing efficiency.
- An analysis of the potential for the revaluation of textile thermoplastic waste in the formulation of elastomers and rubbers.
This project is funded by the Conselleria d’Economia Sostenible, Sectors Productius, Comerç i Treball de la Generalitat Valenciana, through IVACE.
