MOTIVATION


One problem in the weaving and jacquard industry is that the fabrics are characterised by dimensional stiffness and are very limited in terms of their elastic capacity.

Nowadays there are both openwork and Jacquard fabrics with elastic capacity in the weft, but the great handicap appears in the search for elasticity in the warp, making it difficult to create a fabric with elastic and recovery properties in both directions.

Entering these sectors will be a challenge, as the regulations required in each are demanding and will put AITEX’s current research and development capacity to the test.

 

OBJECTIVES


The core objective of TEXLA is to create fabrics with improved stretch for technical applications in compliance with the technical requirements of the various regulations existing in each potential market.

In order to achieve this objective, the aim is to create a fabric with stretch recovery both in the weft and warp, creating fabrics with bidirectional elasticity that allow greater adaptability to the products to be developed, which will make manufacturers’ work easier. At the same time, the aim is to provide the fabrics with a flame-retardant capacity, making them suitable for use in potential markets such as the transport sector (automotive, aviation, railway and maritime) and the contract sector.

The success of the project will be achieved by working with different types of yarns (elastic yarn and base yarn) and looking for combinations that provide the flame-retardant quality required. This will be achieved during manufacture or, later on, during weaving using different techniques and textile structures.

The specific objectives of the TEXLA project are as follows:

  1. Combining yarns by gathering, twisting and braiding to enhance their capabilities.
  2. To create composite yarns with excellent stretch/recovery capacities combined with fire resistance.
  3. Develop structures and weaves using textile CAD/CAM techniques.
  4. To create fabrics that combine design with the high technical capabilities sought in the project.
  5. Create prototypes with excellent technical capabilities for different potential markets.
  6. Physical and fire performance characterisation of the fabrics developed, according to their application.
  7. Fabric finishing (according to requirements).

 

EXPECTED RESULTS


The aim is to create woven and Jacquard fabrics with stretch/recovery capacity in the weft and warp, which in turn provide fire resistance, in order to be used in the different target markets (aviation, contract, automotive, etc.). These will be formed by elastic yarns combined with base yarns to provide the fabric with excellent technical capabilities.

In order to achieve this overall result, the following specific results must be pursued:

  1. Combine elastic yarn with another basic yarn to create an elastic, fire-resistant fabric.
  2. To create woven and jacquard structures with optimal elongation capacity horizontally and vertically.
  3. To achieve fireproof structures that comply with the regulations of the various sectors.
  4. Create designs using CAD/CAM technology.
  5. Manufacture final prototypes using the fabrics developed.

Transfer of results to companies in the sector and cooperation with them in the implementation of the project.

This project is funded by the Conselleria d’Economia Sostenible, Sectors Productius, Comerç i Treball de la Generalitat Valenciana, through IVACE, and is co funded by ERDF from the European Commission within the framework of the Operational Programme FEDER for the Comunitat Valenciana 2014-2020.
