STUDY, DESIGN AND VALIDATION OF CIRCULAR ECONOMIES FOR TEXTILE WASTE ACCORDING TO TYPE
MELTEX 2022
Motivation
Following Parliament’s approval of the new Law on Waste and Contaminated Soil for a Circular Economy on 1 April, textile companies in the Valencian Community face certain limitations in the application of the principles of the circular economy and the efficient use of resources.
Great efforts are being invested in the recovery and recycling of textile waste, and recycled fibres derived from polyesters and cellulose are now appearing in the shops, with great acceptance by consumers. Therefore, the unexplored market for thermoplastic textile waste recycling opens up a new economic avenue based on the development of knowledge and oriented towards activities and sectors in which the Valencian Community is competitive, and where we can become a global leader.

Objectives
- The identification of different sources of mono-component post-industrial waste focusing mainly on polyester (PET), polypropylene (PP) and polyethylene (PE) waste.
- The study of previously identified waste and classification according to type and composition.
- A pilot-scale validation of the process of mechanical recycling via melting of the identified waste.
- To create recycled monofilaments from previously identified waste.
- To designing the introduction of a circular economy according to waste type.
Expected results

-
Market study to identify textile companies that generate thermoplastic post-industrial waste to be mechanically recycled by melting.
-
Recycling of different post-industrial waste.
-
Recycled material for high added value products.
-
Reduction of the carbon footprint.
-
Anticipation of the new EU Directive 2018/851.

R&D AREAS
NEWS
The aim of the AGROLOOP project is to apply AITEX’s know-how in the field of mechanical textile recycling to a sector that produces large quantities of homogeneous waste that is not being fully revalued
AITEX was present at the CITEVE iTechStyle Summit presenting the European project r-LightBioCom of which the center is the main coordinator.
The R+D+i area is constantly growing, adapting to market needs and generating new solutions for multiple application sectors.
