Comfort is the most important property of a garment, particularly in those garments that are in direct contact with the skin. Therefore, this factor must be taken into account when manufacturing the fabric.
Every parameter that influences the final comfort factor of the garment must be considered during manufacture. The surface structure of the fabric will play a vital role, as well as the nature of the yarn, its absorption and transpiration index, and thermal insulation, rigidity and wet-rub results.
The key factor which reflects the comfort value of a fabric is the relationship between its resistance to water vapour and its thermal insulating properties. This is known as the transpiration index. Other variables that have a lesser influence on comfort are the time taken to dry and the capacity of the fabric to absorb moisture.
AITEX has all the equipment necesary for the measurement of these main variables, as well as many others that will determine the definitive behaviour of the fabric.
