SOLAR PROTECTION

Nowadays, protection from solar radiation has become of vital importance, and a correct understanding of the consequences of solar radiation upon a textile structure is key to being able to offer tents and awnings that present optimum characteristics when exposed to U.V. radiation.

Due to the fact that there is an infinite range of variables that can affect textiles under these conditions, and this meaning the difference between a product possessing one protection grade or another, there are different standards that have been developed to determine textile protection against U.V. radiation. Among the most important of these are:

Determination of the U.V. protection factor of a textile: The UPF that a textile offers in its original state, dry and unstressed. The following standards can be evaluated:

AS/NZS 4399-1966 Australian-New Zealand Standard.
BS 7914-1998 English Standard.
AATCC 183-1998 North American Standard
EN 13758-2000 European Standard.
U.V. 801 Standard textile certification: Assigns the textile a UV protection value after submitting the sample to exposure to various agents that can influence its UPF during the life of the article.
