Public transport

banner public transport

Public transport requires a range of textile solutions, each of which with its own unique properties and functions. AITEX carries out research in this field to improve textile performance in terms of the fire resistance of wall coverings, ceiling panels and flooring mats or carpeting, upholstery and hung fabrics such as curtains and blinds used on buses, coaches and trains. In maritime transport, the same performance is studied for upholstery, curtains and hangings, upholstered furniture, bedding, floor coverings and deck furniture.

Lines of R & D:

Anti-static textiles and electrical conductivity

The development of these kinds of fabrics is another component of comfort. They are developed within textile clothing with a view to dissipating static electricity and avoiding electric shocks.

Technical textiles for the automobile and public transport sectors

Development of new materials for application in the Aeronautics, Aerospace, Automobile, Railway, Bus/Coach and Maritime sectors. The aim is to improve the properties of textile materials used in cabs/cabins to enhance the comfort of users.

Lines of Innovation:

Classification of the fire behaviour of interior design materials

The characteristics of materials used in interior design and decoration and for other uses could be a potential risk in terms of starting or spreading a fire. Therefore, AITEX tests the fire behaviour in materials for differents interiors.

Classification of the fire behaviour of transportation materials

AITEX evaluates materials used in different means of transport, assessing ease of ignition, the amount of smoke produced in a fire and toxicity, in accordance with regulations for the IMO (International Maritime Organization), for railways and land transport.

Study and characterisation of the acoustic properties of materials. Sound absorption is the quality possessed by all materials to transform part of the sound energy that impacts against them into heat; in other words these materials have the capacity to absorb a large part of the acoustic energy that impacts against them and, therefore, are used to reduce the acoustic level in the space where noise occurs.
