Textiles used in aircraft must offer excellent fire performance characteristics and produce a smoke-free burn. These are two areas of research, with applications in flooring, upholstery and textile-based auxiliary items such as cushions and blankets among others. Research is also carried out into improvements in comfort which will lead to increased passenger comfort and ergonomics on long-haul flights.

Lines of R & D:

Biocomposites

A biocomposite is a compound material largely derived from biomass. For this purpose, natural textile reinforcements can be used, combined with mainly vegetable resins to create a compound material that is 100% renewable, in other words, free from petrochemical compounds. We are working to research, develop and search for applications for these innovative materials which are in great demand among end users as they are environmentally friendly and respectful.

Technical coatings

Research and development of state-of-the-art finishes, capable of giving special properties to textile substrates, setting them apart from conventional textiles. We are working with experimental plants capable of treating textiles on a semi-industrial scale and achieving results that can be extrapolated on an industrial scale.

Lines of Innovation:

Classification of the fire behaviour of interior design materials

The characteristics of materials used in interior design and decoration and for other uses could be a potential risk in terms of starting or spreading a fire. Therefore, AITEX tests the fire behaviour in materials for differents interiors.

Classification of the fire behaviour of transportation materials

AITEX evaluates materials used in different means of transport, assessing ease of ignition, the amount of smoke produced in a fire and toxicity, in accordance with regulations for the IMO (International Maritime Organization), for railways and land transport.

Automobile-public transport sector

Study and characterisation of the acoustic properties of materials. Sound absorption is the quality possessed by all materials to transform part of the sound energy that impacts against them into heat; in other words these materials have the capacity to absorb a large part of the acoustic energy that impacts against them and, therefore, are used to reduce the acoustic level in the space where noise occurs.
