“FINE-TEX” is the only upholstery certification currently available in Europe that meets the parameters demanded by EN 14465. This offers those manufacturers who choose to attain this standard a distinct advantage in the European market place which is currently facing an onslaught of inferior grade products from developing nations.

The European legislation, drawn up by the European Normalisation committee and the Technical Textile Committee TC 248, has redefined quality parameters as they concern upholstery products. The obligatory tests proposed by the ruling ask for several quality control tests to be carried out, among them; abrasion, tearing, traction and pilling to verify the resistance of textiles.

 Logos

The first Fine-Tex Blue category refers to those articles designed for public use and defined as "Contract", these include hotel upholstery and textiles for use in any public spaces such as museums, pubs, concert halls, conference centres etc.

Fine-Tex Green is for products for general domestic use, and the third category Fine-Tex Rose, corresponds to those products for delicate domestic use, which require careful use and which cannot, for example, be used by children or babies.

At the end of 2006, 12 textile products have been awarded these new category logos: 4  Fine-Tex Rose, 3 Fine- Tex Green and 1 Fine-Tex Blue and 4 with no possible classification.
